UKOOA Sustainability Strategy 2002 - First Report 2. Social Sustainability 2.3 Engagement with society - communities, schools and fishermen   Commitment No. 34 - Relations with fishermen: FishSafe Fishsafe is a computer based early warning system developed by UKOOA for the fishing industry to warn of the presence of underwater equipment pipelines.  We are supplying this high-tech device, aimed at enhancing safety at sea by warning fishing boats of these obstacles. Progress to date : achievements and difficulties encountered The Fishsafe protection system has now been installed on some 300 fishing vessels, thus making a major enhancement to the safety of the boats and their crews, fishing in the waters of the UKCS which we share with them. In addition to FishSafe, UKOOA has introduced the Kingfisher Information system UK Continental Shelf (KIS-UKCS).  This system contains the same digitised data as FishSafe does, but on a floppy disk which may be used to update fishermans fishing plotters.  The floppy disks are provided to fishermen fishing on the UKCS every six months free of charge, if so requested.
