PILOT / Oil & Gas UK
Decommissioning Workgroup 4
WG4 is looking to understand the technical capability to execute
decommissioning programmes. Initially this is to get a common approach,
language and methodology for how technical options translate into programme
cost estimates. This will then identify the opportunities for improving
capability and reducing costs through new technology and improved supply
chain delivery of planning.
Scope of activities:
-
Create a common language, challenge
assumptions and generate cost estimating guidelines which improve
consistency, quality and accuracy of cost estimates (available online).
To define the level of engineering recommended at key milestones during
asset life cycle and tie-in with the model DCPD references.
-
Explore technology and supply chain
options which could materially impact methodology and costs
-
Connect with existing industry
institutions to support programme executions and the sharing of good
practices
As part of
the Oil & Gas UK decommissioning initiative Work Group 4 held an
“Effectiveness & Efficiency” Workshop in May 2006. Summary files from each
session are available here:

documents of interest:
WG 4 is also involved with the
Decommissioning Technology Facilitator (DTF) an industry body which is
concerned with identifying and promoting novel technology for
decommissioning purposes. This work also ties in with that of the
Industry Technology Facilitator (ITF).
